About
Founded in Winnipeg, Canada, The Canadian Institute for Open Knowledge (CIOK) supports open, multilingual, and interdisciplinary scholarship across the humanities, sciences, and education. Its mission is to break down academic barriers and amplify diverse voices in research. Apertum: Journal of Boundary-Crossing Research is CIOK’s flagship publication. True to its name — Latin for “open” — Apertum provides a space for bold ideas, rigorous inquiry, and critical engagement across disciplines, languages, and borders. Rooted in openness and inclusivity, the journal welcomes work that challenges conventions and promotes meaningful knowledge exchange.

Promote free and ethical circulation of knowledge by publishing peer-reviewed research without cost to readers.

Amplify the diverse voices of global research, including early-career scholars, researchers without institutional affiliation, and scholars from universities in developing countries.
